Here are the activities planned for Reunion 2007, June 1-3. Times and locations may change, so be sure to pick up a final schedule when you arrive on campus by visiting the Registration table in the Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center.

10:45–11:45 p.m. Aviette, one of the hottest new indie bands in the Twin Cities, features lead singer / guitarist Holly Muñoz ’02.

“My Life’s Journey” with Rev. Donald F. Beisswenger ’52 and Dr. Genell Knatterud ’52
Weyerhaeuser Memorial Chapel

The Reverend Donald F. Beisswenger ’52, has had a distinguished career as a Presbyterian minister, professor at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and has been a tireless worker for social justice. He has devoted his time to actively working to resist the global war against the poor. This activism led him to participate in vigils at the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was arrested for an act of civil disobedience. He will receive the Honorary Degree given at the 2007 Awards Convocation.

Dr. Genell Knatterud ’52 is Chair of the Board and former president of the Maryland Medical Research Institute. She has made significant contributions to the advancement of clinical trials and has the admiration of an entire generation of peers. She will receive a Distinguished Citizen Citation at the 2007 Awards Convocation.

Discussion — The Things They Carried
Tim O’Brien’s 1990 book The Things They Carried — the common reading for this year’s Reunion — was chosen by the New York Times as one of the most important works of fiction published in the last 25 years. Based on his experiences as a soldier during the Vietnam War, the book is a collection of interrelated stories about a single platoon. O’Brien, whose novel was also chosen for the citywide reading program, St. Paul Reads, will receive a Distinguished Citizen Citation at Reunion. Sponsored by the Classes of 1967, 1968 and 1969.

Larry Dinger ’68: "From Macalester to Ambassador"
Larry Dinger ’68, was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of the Fiji Islands, the Republic of Kiribati, the Republic of Nauru, the Kingdom of Tonga and Tuvalu on July 22, 2005. A native of Riceville, Iowa, he went on to law school, worked in politics, including being on the staff of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and practiced law before entering the Foreign Service in 1983.

Psychology Professor Jack Rossmann will present a fascinating demographic analysis based on the responses to the 25-year class survey taken by the Class of 1982.
