After my first year of teaching art, I spent the summer working as a ranch hand cowboy on a 16,000-acre ranch in Montana. I married Joyce Bebensee, Gustavus '58, in 1961. We have four adult children, three boys and one girl, and 13 grandchildren. My wife and I have traveled to Europe, Egypt, Israel and China.
In the early 1960s, I studied art in Mexico City where I received an M.F.A. in Painting. My experience in Mexico had a very profound effect on me and my direction in producing art. After 32 years of teaching art in the public schools, I retired from the Anoka-Hennepin School System in 1993. Since then I have been able to work full-time in my studio producing faith-based Christian art. Over the years I have had many solo and group exhibitions. This October and November (2008) I will be an artist-in-residence at the Henry Luce III Center for Arts and Religion in Washington, DC.
