Our freshman Q&A session on dating
After graduating from Macalester, I married my high school sweetheart, Ed Libby, who graduated from the U. of Minnesota but attended most Mac functions with me! I taught first grade at Falcon Heights School, where I had practice taught, until Ed was called up in the Army Reserves during the Berlin crisis. Our first son was born at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Back in Roseville, Minn., our second son was born.
While raising the family I did volunteer work at school, church, and a crisis hot line. I manage three Kansas wheat farms that belonged to my father and grandparents. Ed has now retired from Wells Fargo, which gives us even more time for travel. Destinations include Vermont and California where our sons and families live. We visit charities in Los Angeles and South Dakota that are recipients of a foundation Ed heads up.
We have stayed in a Scottish castle, went four wheeling on sand dunes near Los Cabos, and cruised Alaska, the Greek Islands, and the Caribbean. I was interviewed in Spanish on Chilean TV (Professor Dassett would be proud)! A trip to Egypt, where Dad taught for three years before teaching at Mac, was special. New Zealand, China, and Croatia have been favorites. Writing and photography are hobbies of mine and proved useful in a program we recently gave about our trip to Russia.
Co-chairing Central High School's Hall of Fame Committee and serving on Macalester's 50-Year Reunion Committee have brought back many memories.
