I started my teaching career in Cleveland, Ohio, in the public schools at a junior high called Nathan Hale. I lived with my sister, Gladys Danies, and her family for about a year and then moved in with three roommates.
After about three-and-a-half years I met my husband, Al Wangerin, and we married in 1963. I changed jobs to a high school in Coventry, near Akron, Ohio. After about another two years, I started to work on my master’s in Guidance Education at the University of Akron. In 1967, we went to Chardon, Ohio, where I again taught high school P.E and Health.
My husband was a printer who wanted to own his own business, so we moved to Illinois so we could live near his mom who was a widow. There I got a job at Wheaton Central High School. Just before we moved there I finished my master’s degree. I taught P. E. and health there for three years and then an opening occurred in the guidance office and the Principal asked me to take the position. I did, and remained there until 1994 when I retired.
My husband and I split up in 1983 and I have been happily divorced since. I have my own house, which I love, and am very active in my local Congregational UCC church.
I've had a full, active, happy life and continue to be content with my life style and life choices. I see my 12 nieces and nephews often, which fills the family side of my life.
