The paramount highlight for me was marrying the younger of the two Macalester nurses, Cynthia Sonnichsen, in 1959 and having four children. Although not a highlight, teaching mathematics at Minnetonka (Minnesota) Public schools for 30 years helped make everything else possible.
I took a break from teaching and Cyndy and I formed our own corporation where we designed and built houses for sale. We did a lot of remodeling also, and it was fun working with adults, but by returning to my teaching position I was able to retire at 55.
Retirement would have to be my second most satisfying highlight. With our children scattered all over the country we felt free to sell our home in Minnesota and become homeless for about two years. We traveled extensively throughout Western Europe making enduring friendships in various countries.
After much research we chose St George, Utah, as a home base. Needing to give something back to the community I studied and became an "expert" with Microsoft Access software. I developed applications for our regional hospital, and currently volunteer my services at a free medical clinic for people without insurance and low incomes.
