For the first 17 years following my graduation from Mac, I had a number of sales jobs, including life insurance, yellow pages advertising and office supplies. Then I obtained a degree in Programming Technology and worked as a programmer/analyst for Control Data, General Mills and the State College Board under Dr. Mitau.

For the last 32 years, I have been selling insurance. I am an agent for Farmers Insurance, and a general agent for Blue Cross of Minnesota. I own the Colvin Insurance Agency in Bloomington, Minn. My specialty for the last 15 years has been in Medicare Supplement sales. I am currently in the process of selling my Farmer’s book of business to my brother. I expect the sale to be finalized by January 1, 2008.

I have been married to my first wife Dorothy since December 12, 1965. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher in Minneapolis until her retirement in 1995. We have two children – Major Thomas Colvin (USAF) and Dr. Patricia Doyle (Pharm-D). Son Tom gradhuated from the Air Force Academy in 1995 and is currently working at the Pentagon. Daughter Patty graduated from St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.

We have lived in Edina, Minn., for the past 33 years. Both children graduated from Edina High School. We currently spent a lot of our summer at our lake home on Big Pine Lake, near Perham, Minn. We winter at our condo in Destin, Florida.
