After graduating from Macalester, my high school coach suggested that I should consider getting a teaching certificate. I enrolled as a 5th year student at Mac to get my education credits and shorthand certification. What a satisfying career! I taught 35 years at Highland Park Jr. and Sr. High and also at St. Paul TVI (now St. Paul College). Contrary to what many people think, most of the students were cooperative, respectful and fun to work with. It bothers me to think that today's Mac student is not able to complete certification for an education degree. The contribution of Mac students to education has been enormous.  

Kathy and I (Kathy Felland '58) are enjoying being full-service grandparents. One of the most enjoyable trips we ever made was three years ago. We rented a van with our daughter and son-in-law and three of our grandchildren. We traveled through Norway, France, Germany and Switzerland. Thank God my son-in-law did all of the driving, even in Paris.
