In Memory

Jeanne Putz Meigs ’58

Passed away on February 8, 2008

Written by her husband, Jerry Meigs ’57.

Jeanne was an economics major at Macalester and joined the 3M Company after graduation. She was there until our first child was born. With a minor in Art, she brought forward an artistic sensibility that was a strong part of everything she pursued in her life. She was an elegant woman who cherished her role as a homemaker and mother. She was an avid gardener and an expert seamstress, she loved to play bridge and read. Jeanne also took on leadership roles in her community, becoming the first female moderator of Falcon Heights United Church of Christ and an active member of the Junior League of St Paul, especially in the Next to New Shop. For 20 years she was a volunteer gift buyer at the United Hospital Gift Shop in St Paul.

Jeanne and I met, at Macalester and we married in 1958. We are the parents of two sons, Scott and Bob, with four grandsons all living in the state of Wyoming. Together we traveled to 35 countries for service projects or pleasure and worked together on numerous Rotary International endeavors including polio immunization in India and Africa. Jeanne had a high priority in giving a helping hand to others and giving of her time. She had a great willingness to share her talents.

She was an active Macalester alumna and a generous donor. She served as chair of the Class of 1958 Program Committee until her health failed. She cherished her years at Macalester as a student with the excellent education and life-guiding values she received. Frequently she would talk about Macalester and the many wonderful friends she made along with a positive outlook on life.
