Closing one door and opening another
I sat in the only vacant seat in Millie Scheckler's Modern Novel class while my soon to be ex-boyfriend waited in the lounge after coming 1500 miles to visit me. I married the ex G.I. in the seat next to mine. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2007.

The hidden blessing of required Phy-Ed.
In 1957-58, we had required chapel and physical education. I was sort of a gym rat, so it was natural for me to be there for what turned out to be the meeting of a lifetime. What a blessing to be able to first meet my future bride Ann Armantrout '61 (a 1958 Sweetheart of Kirk Hall candidate) in the gym, where she was making up a missed phy-ed class!

The Spotlite dating scene
The Women's Office Campus Lounge in Old Main was my home away from home.
With windows facing East, South and West -- the comings and goings of the
whole campus were available to us. With a well-used copy of the Spotlite
(sometimes called the "Sex Book" by the gentlemen who lived in Kirk Hall, I
am told) we could identify almost anyone. In fact, I had accepted a date with
my now husband of 50 years, Andy, not knowing his name. Yes, my Office
Campus women friends helped me figure that out before the dance!

Meeting Bill and other favorites
My favorite memories from Macalester include meeting Bill, sock hops in the Student Union, forming a trio with two other sopranos, because we "stood next to each other" in choir, Drama Choros and small intimate classes and gatherings with Beth Leinbach. She blessed her students so much with her pure Christian faith and genuine concern for her "chicks!"

“And, how was your summer?”
I remember when I got married the summer between my junior and senior years.

First comes a Homecoming show, then comes…
I was asked to be in charge of the Homecoming show, which would include a musical skit, talent show and a finale. I needed an assistant with organizational skills who would handle the paperwork, scheduling, etc. Nancy Oliver, who was on the homecoming committee, volunteered. She did an excellent job and the show was a big success. One year later we were engaged!
