Being "chaperoned" at a Flying Scots meet
When Marcia (Mittelsted) and I thought Mac a bit too quiet, we joined the Flying Scots and — as I remember — were the only female members for well over a year. In our sophomore year, we drove with them to Norman, Okla., for the Inter-collegiate flying meet. Pat Knight served as the required chaperon. We dropped her off in Oklahoma City on the way down and picked her up on the return! No one the wiser!

Our "most active" flying club
In the spring of 1957, Macalester's Flying Scots traveled to Oklahoma A & M to attend the National Intercollegiate Flying meet. Without realizing it, Pat (Lind) and I were talking to some of the judges, and we were enthusiastically telling about the Flying Scots activities and plans for the future. Were we ever pleased when we were named the "Most Active Club" at the awards banquet. Maybe that's why our bid to host the 1958 National Intercollegiate Flying Meet was accepted. And, what a great experience that turned out to be!
