I've been retired for four years. My wife, Carol Johnson Brezina ’65, and I spend most of the summer months at our lake home on Serpent Lake near Brainerd, Minn. We try to spend at least two months of the winter in Sedona, Ariz. The rest of the time, we volunteer with church and Travelers Assistance at Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport, and spoil our grandchildren. That is challenging since two of the seven live in Florida and two live in Chicago. That forms a good excuse to travel. We also attempt to work on our wish list of international travel destinations at the rate of one per year. Our nomadic existence makes the choice of townhome living in Plymouth, Minn., a no-brainer. The pets have all passed on and so we just lock and go. We've discovered new circles of friends in retirement and also opportunities to reconnect with old friends who, like us, now have time to invest in mutual interests.
My Mac Memories:
Memories include meeting and courting Carol, saying goodnight in the Turck Fishbowl, participating in Canadian-American Conferences, International Weeks and mock political conventions, meeting John Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt during the 1960 campaign, being in Drama Choros and on the College Bowl Team, going on Hildegard's Field Trips, and acting in Little Theater productions. I had my first and only experience in jail when an off-campus cast party was raided. On the way down in the paddy wagon, one enterprising girl had kiped the host's toothpaste and swallowed the whole tube. She passed the breath test. The rest of us went before the judge and subsequently Dean Dupre to be awarded probation. The worst was yet to come. Department Head Mary Gwen Owen expressed profound disappointment with us for our behavior and also thought it uncouth that we had been drinking beer instead of wine.
