President Charles Turck
Inspiring words
By Gary H. Hickok
I remember with pride and joy the liberal idealism of Dr. Charles Turck. At Convocation, during the integration crisis in Little Rock, he said, “Those who would deny humanity and rights to others, destroy their own, and cannot, for their own sake, as well as others, be allowed to prevail. Justice, fairness, and human kindness must, always and forever, win the day.”
A modern hero
By Connie Youngberg Ronnow
We all remember Dr. Turck and how our admiration grew over the years. My image of him is with that slight smile that identified his face. I have no clue how he was as an administrator, but his humanity and ethics, I now recognize, are rare.
This oft quoted line from "Ulysses" is so eloquent:
"Come, my friends. Tis not too late to seek a newer world."
