Women's Dorm Life
Dorm memories
By Karen Strand Westby
I remember saying goodnight to a date in the fish bowl of Turck Hall as the housemother blinked the lights at curfew, the telephones in the hallway, and those late night bull sessions in someone's dorm room.
Friends in Turck
By Judith Hill Wright
Since I transferred to Macalester during my sophomore year, they paired me with a freshman roommate, Jean Stukel, in brand new Turck Hall. There were six of us who were special friends and have kept up with each other for 50 years. I enjoyed all the Turck Hall people and was honored to be their junior class representative to the dorm council, and as a senior I was Turck Hall president. I also enjoyed working on the yearbook staff my junior year. Best of all was meeting Gordy and sharing our college years and a whole life together.
A perfect game
By Kristine Olson Craft
In October of '56 there was a TV set up in the student union and I remember watching Don Larsen pitch his perfect game in the World Series. I don't believe that was part of a class assignment!
The girls of Turck
By Jan Rubin Smed
My fondest memory of Macalester was the time I spent with the girls in Charles Turck Hall. All the late night talks, laughter and tears with good friends. I remember fondly my days at Macalester and am very proud to have been a part of the Macalester family.
You’ve got male
By Dona Meigs Morgan
In 1960 the girl's dormitory was strictly for women. When there was a male in the dorm, someone would holler, "man on the floor."
Bigelow buddies
By Patricia M. Jaeche Keck
Meeting Liz Larson Spangenberg out junior year in Bigelow Hall, the only year we both lived on campus. We began to plan our three month trip to Europe for right after graduation.
