Convocations gave us global awareness
Jack Terry
The first big change was that Mac opened my eyes to the world. Remember the "required" Convocation periods, every Thursday in the old gym! I can still see Dr. Huntley Dupre enthusiastically leading us in the singing of Dear Old Macalester! Then a guest speaker was introduced. On Thursday mornings we heard from politicians, presidential candidates, philosophers, physicians, scientists, missionaries—people whose vision and compassion are still changing our world. Thank you Macalester for the gift of "Global Awareness!"
Convocations exposed us to the world around us
Cynthia Burr Larson
The required convocations sometimes seemed like an extra burden to a busy schedule but over those four years we were privileged to hear a number of luminaries of the day such as Dr. Tom Dooley, Al Capp, and Norman Cousins. What a wonderful exposure to the world around us and a solid preparation for our years ahead. Thank you Macalester!
