I am a clinical psychologist/psychoanalyst in private practice in St. Paul and an adjunct graduate professor of psychology at St. Thomas. I live in Tangletown (just behind Mac - remember?) with my wife Linda and three children, play in a band called Buster Phalen and am still grieving the loss of Hungry Mind/Ruminator Books.

My Mac Memories: In one of those Freshman moments of wanting to be a "wild college student," Bob Rockey and I wandered into the library one cold autumn evening, wearing only the velvet boxer shorts made for us by Karen Lindholm (a wonderful seamstress, artist, and bass trombone player—my girlfriend at the time). Few people gave us a second glance, which speaks to the environment of Macalester at the time.

There are so many wonderful moments and memories—the Grille; O'Gara's; classes with the "old" psych. department (Walt Mink, Ray Johnson, Chuck Torrey and Linda LaBounty); playing guitar with Rick Hammer and Rob Farrell; and long & intense conversations about politics, philosophy, science and life with Jeff DeJong, Anne Walsh (now a neighbor and still great friend) Deannie Golnick, et al.

But regrets, too, like not taking more literature and art, missing out on physics, and not understanding what a few lovely young women really meant when they said, "We should get together..." I always thought, "Didn't we?..."

I'm at the same company I joined after I completed Macalester, but have managed to reinvent myself every few years as I've gained different skills and degrees. Since completing a doctorate in computer science four years ago, I've been researching human-robot interaction.

My Mac Memories: The annual north-south snowball fights, complete with pelting the Domino's pizza cars. Perhaps more seriously, the January "History of Science in Europe" trip with Truman Schwartz and the seminar in the history of science that he taught me along with five or six other topics, at my request, our senior year.

I am a partner at a Private Equity/Hedge Fund in NYC called Fortress Investment Group. I have worked at Fortress for over 10 years and currently manage our distress debt group. When I am not working, I spend time flying my 1991 Beechcraft Bonanza to my weekend house in Western Massachusetts and throughout most of New England.
