Oral histories are a crucial element in
documenting the LGBTQ experience. Mark Meinke ’70 of the
Rainbow History Project will lead
participatory training in setting up,
managing, and collecting both directed
and undirected oral histories.

1:45–3:15 p.m. Rainbow Families Session
This session will be an opportunity for
alumni to network with other rainbow families.
Led by the co-founder of Rainbow Families,
Deborah Talen ’75. Founded in June 1997,
Rainbow Families is one of the largest regional
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parent
organizations in the country. From their
Minneapolis home, they provide services to
more than 2,000 families throughout the
Upper Midwest.

1:45–3:15 p.m. Rainbow Rumpus Youth Workshop
Laura Matanah ’90 — founder and publisher of Rainbow Rumpus, the magazine for kids with LGBT parent — will lead children in a variety of active games and dramatic activities including making freehand art to be displayed in the LGBT Reunion art show, learning how to use the Rainbow Rumpus website to communicate with their newfound friends and creating a brief presentation for their parents.

our alumni are doing to impact communities

This session will focus on current issues
facing LGBT communities both locally and
nationally. The work of Scots Pride alumni
will be highlighted in this session.

with keynote address by Adrienne Christiansen
Adrienne Christiansen teaches American
political communication courses in Macalester’s
Political Science Department. Between
1990 and 2003, she was a faculty member in
the Communication and Media Studies
Department. Christiansen received her B.A.
and M.A. at Kansas University and her Ph.D.
in Speech Communication at the University
of Minnesota. Her scholarly efforts have
focused on the language of war and the
rhetoric of social movements, including the
AIDS activist group ACT UP. Most recently,
she has studied the rhetoric of editorial cartoons
and the persuasive functions of political
monuments in the partitioned island of
Cyprus. Macalester President Brian Rosenberg and LGBT Reunion planning committee chair Richard Dowdell ’99 will also speak.
