The Situation

Pakistan, 60 miles north-northeast of Islamabad, was the epicenter of a massive 7.6-magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005. The first quake was followed by over 140 aftershocks, 21 of which measured over 5.0 in magnitude. The quake's devastation stretched over a 300km radius, killing and injuring people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. Over 48,000 people have been reported dead, and 67,000 more severely injured, as of Friday, October 20.

How to Help

Macalester alumni Warren N Anderson, Jr. '83 and Abrahim Yousafzai '86 have started a relief fund through which the Macalester Community can directly support relief efforts in Pakistan. Help those affected by this Earthquake by contributing to this new fund or another relief organization.
