Bogdkhan Mountain Reserve is the oldest protected area in the world (since the 13th century) and is home to the ruins of Mandshir Monastery, built in 1749 as a place sacred to the Bodhisattva Manjushri. Destroyed by the communists in the 1930s, an active reconstruction program has restored the main temple and many of the defaced cliff paintings. Enjoy the chance to walk through the pine-scented valley and visit both the rebuilt main temple and the original temple ruins. Return to Ulaanbaatar for dinner. Overnight at your Hotel. (B, L, D)
