About Macalester Facilities Macalester College

Summit Avenue

St. Paul's historic Summit Avenue stretches for three miles from the St. Paul Cathedral (overlooking downtown) to the Mississippi River; a mile west of Macalester campus. It boasts a large number of well preserved Victorian-era homes in many architectural styles.

The Hugh S. Alexander Alumni House, named after a former professor of geography, was built by department store pioneer and early Macalester benefactor George Draper Dayton and served as a home for Macalester presidents until 1984.
