Chinese Language and Culture In 2003, the Macalester Department of Asian Languages and Cultures introduced courses focused on Mandarin Chinese. Xin Yang, a tenure-track Chinese professor, joined the faculty in Fall 2007. A second tenure-track professor will start in Fall 2009. The Chinese Minor was approved in February 2009. Minor Requirements A minor in Chinese Language and Culture includes courses chosen in consultation with an advisor from within the department. Requirements include: A. Two intermediate level Chinese courses (ASIA 203 and ASIA 204)
