David Blaney joined the faculty in 1994 and was awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 1997. He was an undergraduate at Valpariso University and did his graduate work at the Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver. His research interests include the political theory and political economy of international relations and democratic theory in a global age. He has recently published articles on the idea of "global civil society" (Alternatives) and on Karl Polanyi's ethnographically informed critique of capitalism (Millennium). He has just returned from a sabbatical at the University of Chicago. He teaches Foundations of International Politics, Development Politics, Global Political Economy, and a Research Seminar on International Politics.
