Ritsuko Narita is a visiting instructor in the Japanese language program this year. She will be teaching Intermediate & Advanced Japanese in the fall and spring. In addition to her classroom work, she plans the Asia Festival or Poetry Contest in alternating years. Narita also coordinates other departmental cultural events. Narita-sensei plans to graduate in August 2009 with a Ph.D. in Japanese Linguistics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her dissertation is entitled: "The Effects of Pragmatic Consciousness-raising Activities on the Development of Pragmatic Awareness and Use of Hearsay Evidential Markers for Learners of Japanese as a Foreign Language."
