This page is designed to provide information on research that has been carried out on damped lyman alpha systems during the period of summer 2001 under the supervison of Prof. Kim Venn.
I am currently researching on the physical nature of damped lyman alpha systems ( DLAs) and on the the pissible connection between these systems and present day galaxies. The question of whether DLAs are spiral or irregular galaxies has been adopeted as the main focuss this research. Evidences supporting either of the two contending theories have have been collected, and subgrouped into two catagories. These catagories are created based on the nature of the study: evidences based on investigation of the elemntal abundances or those that are based on the kinematic nature of DLAs themselves.
