Ned Tervola, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Ned Tervola is in his second year as an Assistant Athletic
Trainer at Macalester College. As a new staff member, Ned is working to readjust
to the collegiate setting after working in the high school setting for the
past two years. The plethora of names and faces are slowly becoming more
familiar!
Ned completed his undergraduate degree at Concordia
College, Moorhead, in 2001. During his time as an undergraduate student,
he worked as a student athletic trainer under Stephanie Brandt and Kevin
Stalsberg. Other undergraduate experiences included sports medicine internships
with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the Fargo-Moorhead Freeze (of the Indoor
Football League), and the Junior/Cadet National Freestyle/Greco Wrestling
Tournament.
Upon finishing at Concordia, he went on to a Master's
of Arts in Exercise Physiology from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.
A blended internship of Human Performance and Cardiac Rehabilitation ultimately
led to a position with MeritCare Sports Medicine/Detroit Lakes High School
in the fall of 2002. Ned served as the athletic trainer for the Detroit
Lakes School System with MeritCare Sports Medicine for the past two years.
During this time, he was entrusted with the care of approximately 500 athletes,
on 20-plus squads. Beyond the duties of athletic trainer, Ned worked with
a local dietician to educate female teams in nutrition and health.
In addition to working as an assistant athletic trainer
at Macalester College, Ned works in a physician extender role for the orthopaedic
surgeons at Sports and Orthopaedic Specialists, P.A. in Edina. This position
allows him to serve as a liaison between the Orthopaedic surgeons and the
Macalester student-athletes.
Ned is pleased to be working with the Macalester Scots
and is currently working in conjunction with some of the students to develop
a club hockey team!
