The Katharine Ordway Natural History Study Area [KONHSA] is
located in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, 17 miles from the Macalester
College campus. It was established in 1967 by Macalester
College. The many natural habitats found on-site include tall
grass prairie, oak savannah and woodlands, aspen and birch forests,
seasonal and permanent ponds and springs, and a backwater lake,
adjacent to the Mississippi River.
These lands have been set aside by the College for
biological and environmental education, for restoration activities, and
for the protection of native plant communities, wildlife habitat and
natural environments.
