Volunteer Opportunities

Commencement Volunteers

We are currently seeking volunteers for Commencement weekend.

To sign-up, please contact Melanie LaBrasseur at mlabrass@macalester.edu or 651-696-6644. All students requesting to stay past Tuesday, May 8 (closing day for non-graduates) must also fill out the May Housing Extension form on the Res. Life website. The deadline is Friday, April 27.

After picking up your name tag from the registration table in the lower level of the Campus Center, please arrive at the Gym in the Leonard Center at 1:30pm or earlier to assist with seating and handing out programs. You can check in at that time with Ann Minnick or Brenda Piatz for further instructions.

After picking up your name tag from the registration table in the lower level of the Campus Center, you should be able to find Café Mac folks setting up tablecloths and other tasks on Bateman Plaza, if not there - try checking in at Café Mac .

After picking up your name tag and the rest of them from the registration table in the lower level of the Campus Center, please find a space out of the way to the right of the Info. Desk. You’ll be distributing name tags to volunteers and updating folks about their tasks.

After picking up your name tag from the Volunteer Coordinator near the Info. Desk, please arrive at the Chapel at 9:15am or earlier to assist with seating and handing out programs. You can check in at that time with KP Hong or Patti Lydon for further instructions.

After picking up your name tag and instructions from the Volunteer Coordinator near the Info. Desk, please check with Café Mac staff about where they would like you to best help to move graduates and their families through in an efficient manner.

After picking up your name tag and specific instructions from the Volunteer Coordinator near the Info Desk, ushers will be handing out programs and directing families to seating. In case of an emergency (lightning, etc.) please direct those on the Flagpole side to Weyerhaueser, Chapel, and Campus Center basements. Direct those on the Old Main side to Library, Old Main, and Carnegie basements. Should we implement the rain plan and be in the Field House follow the announced directions to guide people to the basement of Olin Rice, Lower Level of Leonard Center in case of an emergency.

After picking up your name tag, keys, and specific instructions from the Volunteer Coordinator near the Info Desk, van drivers will go pick-up the vehicles and park on the Macalester St. side of Weyerhaeuser. At Weyerhaeuser they will check in with Cynthia Hendricks for further direction. If weather is not an issue, you will not be needed. Please check in with the Volunteer Coordinator to confirm.

Pick up your name tag, keys, and specific instructions from the Volunteer Coordinator near the Info Desk. Return the carts to the parking lot on the South side of the Stadium and return keys to the Volunteer Coordinator.
