Sophomore Development Series 2014-2015

5 dINNERS, 5 wednesdays, 5 opportunities for connection and conversation

Sophomore year can be rewarding, yet challenging at times. You may experience changing relationships, new academic rigor, difficult decisions around selecting a major, and pondering study away opportunities. This program was designed to provide you a space to discuss some of these potential challenges with experts from around campus.

Please consider attending these 5 meetings for conversation and dinner:
*It is expected that you commit to ALL 5 meetings

**All meeting are from 5-6:30pm in the Weyerhaeuser Boardroom

Wednesday, September 24 - I'm Not a First Year Anymore
-Discuss strategies for academic, personal and social success.
Wednesday, October, 15 - Your Business Here is to Learn
-Discuss how values, beliefs and identities come into play when selecting a major. Also learn about internship resources.
Wednesday, November, 12 - I'm So Excited to Study Away (secretly I'm freaking out)
-Social identities and study away decisions and developing intercultural competence.
Wednesday, February 18 - Failure. What I Got Right By Getting it Wrong

-Discuss the beauty of vulnerability and hear from staff and faculty lessons learned through failure.
Wednesday, April 1 - Gratitude and Attitude
-Reflection on sophomore year and tips to successful transition to junior year.

Each program will be hosted by several senior students as well as experts from around campus including staff from the Internship Office, Multicultural Life, Career Development Center, Civic Engagement Center, Residential Life, Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, Institute for Global Citizenship, Campus Programs, Health and Wellness, International Center and Academic Programs.

The bulk of the dinner program will consist of facilitated small group conversation. The goal is for you to meet key staff and students who can support you through the journey of your sophomore year!
