Admissions Tests: Preparing for Admissions Tests
Before beginning preparations for a particular admissions test, be sure you have determined the test requirements of each program to which you are applying. While one may not be able to learn all the content involved in a given test, the student can become familiar with the types of items in a given exam and develop test taking skills and strategies. Taking practice tests can point out specific areas of weakness for preparation. Test familiarization is essential for everyone to provide awareness of the purpose, format, question types, words and concepts, and general content area. A number of ways to prepare for examinations are mentioned below.
- Look through registration materials
- Complete practice tests
- Install software to practice using CAT
- Download tests/test-taking guidelines from websites (e.g. ETS)
- Receive free, individual help from the MAX Center
- Attend test preparation workshops or Kaplan courses (often $$$)
