Applying: Admissions Tests
Graduate and professional schools frequently require applicants to submit scores on standardized tests. Students should check each school they are considering for test requirements.
Dental Admission Test
Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT)
The first step to becoming a Foreign Service Officer is taking the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT), which is offered once a year in the spring. The exam will measure your knowledge of subjects necessary for performing the tasks required of a Foreign Service Officer. There will be multiple-choice questions on a range of topics from the structure and workings of the U.S. Government to psychology to American culture to management and finance. The exam includes a job knowledge section, an English usage section, a biographic inventory, and an essay exercise. To be eligible, candidates must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 20 and 59, and be available for worldwide assignment. You can select your testing location from among hundreds of test sites around the world.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is administered as a computer adaptive test; the paper and pencil version is no longer available. Make sure to read the GMAT Information Bulletin for updated information.
Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test is generally administered as a computer adaptive test (CAT). GRE Subject Tests are paper-based. Registration and test date information is available in the GRE Bulleti, found in the CDC or online.
Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is administered four times a year (not at every center on every date).
Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is required by medical schools and tests student understanding of biology, chemistry and physics, scientific problem solving and critical thinking, and writing skills. It is offered twice a year at testing centers in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and selected countries. Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is given at testing centers throughout the United States and Canada. Usually the test is given as needed, and fees may vary. The MAT is administered at the University of Minnesota.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is designed to evaluate English proficiency and is taken by people whose native language is not English. TOEFL information is available from the CDC.
