  • The College Majors Handbook
    Neeta P. Fogg, jist, 1999
    Are you unsure of what to major in? This book will help you decide just that. Or are you unsure of what you can do with your major? Then this book provides information and statistics about what people in the major have accomplished.
  • Graduate School Guide
    Myles Riddler, 2000
    Schools are listed under majors, with some colleges containing a brief description about the campus and the history.
  • How to get a PhD
    Estelle M. Phillips, Open University Press, 1987
    A well-written guide that thoroughly explains the importance of a PhD, and gives many practical insights about live as a graduate student.
    International Graduate, Empire Publishing Company, 2001. This is a magazine that "advertises" graduate schools overseas. The articles don't bring out much information about the colleges themselves, and I can't tell if I picked up a valuable source or the Sunday Times.
  • Graduate Admissions Essays - What Works, What Doesn't, and Why
    Donald Asher, Ten Speed Press, 1991
    As dated as the book is, it contains many tips and strategies for writing your essay. There are sample essays to read and common pitfalls that are revealed. Comics scattered throughout the book help allay the stress caused by having to write an essay.
  • How to Write a Winning Personal Statement
    Richard J. Stelzer, Peterson Guides, 1993
    This book is divided into three helpful sections. There is a list of questions to help you choose a topic for your personal statement, a wide variety of example essays, and inside information from admissions officers. Definitely a great resource for those attacking the essay.
  • Perfect Personal Statements
    Mark Alan Stewart, Arco Books, 1996
    An overview of the essay writing process, most of these books tend to be similar, but this one stands out by providing the same strategies in an easy to read format. The essay examples aren't the strongest, nevertheless the book is helpful.
  • The Best Graduate School For You
    The Princeton Review, 1999
    The articles in the beginning are worth reading even if the statistical profiles of the colleges are out-of-date and inaccurate.

Financing School

  • Harvard College Guide to Grants

    An excellent guide to help you find funds for graduate school. You can't go wrong with anything that "Harvard" written on it.
  • Financing Graduate School
    Patricia McWade, Peterson's Guides, 1996
    Tired of flipping through stacks of financial aid opportunities, but unsure of where to start? This book is an excellent place to begin your research to get many financial aid for graduate school.

    A great resource for finding information about money for those going abroad.

    Advice on how to finance your MBA, the statistics about the colleges are out-of-date though.
  • Cracking the Acadamia Nut

    Another great resource for people who are teetering between school and a career. The topic at hand is covered extensively and sample applications are reviewed for strengths and weaknesses.

Test Preparation

    For students struggling with their verbal section on the GRE, this workbook should help up your score. Get an advantage on the competition by reviewing your test-taking skills.
  • Princeton Review LSAT/GRE Analytic Workout

    The analytic section of the GRE/LSAT may be causing you some headaches, but the best way to overcome this is through many exercises. The Princeton Review creates a well written and helpful guide to help you do well on the analytic portion of the GRE/LSAT.

    Similar to the Princeton Review book, but still worth checking out because it offers supplementary information. This book also covers why you should be a lawyer.
  • Paralegal
