Emily Cohen '09
Macalester Jewish Organization
Richmond, VA/ West Orange, NJ
Emily was raised by a Jewish father and Quaker mother who hadn't chosen which religion they wanted to raise their children when Emily came along. Although they decided upon Judaism when she was a pre-schooler, and Emily feels immense ties to that faith, she has acquired some of her moral compass from the Quaker beliefs. Emily is very interested in learning about and comparing different faiths, and she really wants to challenge Macalester's reputation as a school that completely ignores God. Through her work on the council, she hopes to bring a greater knowledge of different faiths to the Macalester community and help both religious and non-religious students feel comfortable on campus.
