Vocational Exploration

What gives you joy? What are you passionate about? What are you good at and where is there a need for these things to be done? Where do you turn to find support and meaning? What ideals are worth giving yourself to? How do you translate self-discovery into concrete life decisions? Where is God or Spirit moving in your exploration of vocation?

At the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, we encourage the active exploration of these questions through many programs and events, including our engagement with the Lilly Project for Vocation and Ethical Leadership, our offerings of spiritual direction, pre-seminary and vocational conversations and our continued collaborative work with the Civic Engagement Center at Macalester College.

The Lilly Project

The Lilly Project encourages the examination of broad questions of values, ethics and vocation.

Theological Education Exploration

You are invited to join the Theological Education Exploration cluster, and discover opportunities and possibilities for graduate work at a seminary, divinity or rabbinical school. Please contact Eily Marlow or Lucy Forster-Smith for information.

Lilly Senior Keystone

The Lilly Senior Keystone provides seniors a space to ask bigger questions with peers and join together their academics with questions of meaning and purpose to encourage both their theological mind and ethical practice. This community will meet throughout senior year and will culminate with a retreat during Spring Break on Whidbey Institute, Whidbey Island, Washington. For more information, contact Lucy Forster-Smith or see the Lilly Project website »

Lilly Summer Fellows Program

The Lilly Project provides two summer options for students to explore how they will serve their ethical and/or religious commitments in a complex world. One of the experiences focuses on academic research and the second allows students to complete paid summer internships in the Twin Cities. Students will choose their own internship sites, with the will exception of a placement at Westminster Presbyterian Church for a student interested in exploring ministry. For more information, see the Lilly Project Summer Fellows website »
