Professor Hoye is an organic chemist with a background in strained ring chemistry and natural product synthesis. Her current research encompasses the development of new synthetic methodology, the determination of relative and absolute stereo chemistry of naturally occurring amino alcohols, and the investigation of organic reaction mechanisms.
Recently, work in her laboratory has been centered on the synthesis of elenic acid, a marine natural product that shows potent in vitro activity against lung cancer. She recently presented the result of her research group in this area at the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry international Conference on Biodiversity and Bioresources - Conservation and Utilization, Phuket, Thailand. She also likes to advise and mentor students interested in doing undergraduate research during the summer and throughout the year.
In her "spare" time, she enjoys outdoor activities of all kinds, and spending time with her family.
