Banner is a suite of administrative software applications developed specifically for higher education institutions by Sungard Higher Education [Website].

How do I login to Banner?

If your job function requires you to have access to Banner INB, you can login to 1600grand and then click on "Employment/My Job" tab. You should see a channel called "My Banner" which will open a Banner INB session for you.

What is 1600grand and how do I login?

1600grand is an online portal that will give you access to all your customized information based on your role on campus. You can login to 1600grand by simply typing http://1600grand.macalester.edu in your broswer and then use your Macalester network username and password to login.

What is the difference between Internet Native Banner (INB) and Self Service Banner (SSB)?

Internet Native Banner is an application intended for heavy users and those doing more of the administrative functions.

Self Service Banner is intended for light users and does not have all the complexity of Internet Native Banner (INB). The majority of users will utilize Self Service Banner. Students may utilize SSB to:

Add and drop classes
Locate the classes in the schedule and subsequently register
Change their class options
View their schedules by day and time or in detail
View tuition and fee assessment charges associated with class registrations for a selected term
View registration status
View his or her academic records
View his or her General Student record
View holds that may exist on his or her records
Display his or her grades for the term
Review his or her unofficial transcripts

Faculty & Advisers may utilize SSB to:

View their class schedules
View their class lists
View, enter, and change their students’ grades
Authorize registration overrides
View student’ information
View addresses and phone numbers
View e-mail addresses
View student schedules
View academic transcripts
Authorize registration overrides

Employees may utilize SSB to:

View direct deposit allocation
View earnings history
View pay stub
View deductions history
View leave balances

Why can’t I login to Banner INB from my home computer?

For security reasons, Banner INB can only be accessed via VPN (Virtual Private Network) from off campus. If you need help setting up the VPN program on your home computer, please contact the Help Desk (x6525).
