Computer Classrooms
ITS has constructed a pair of computer-based classrooms for
instructional use. Both are located on the third floor of the
Humanities building. H302 is equipped with sixteen MPC PC systems,
while H304 boasts sixteen Apple Power Macintosh desktop systems.
All computers are fully networked, both to on-campus resources
and the Internet. Both classrooms are equipped with ceiling-mounted
data projectors so that instructors may put examples from their
monitors up for the entire class to view. Whiteboards are installed
for making notes and diagrams. These rooms have been configured
in an open horseshoe design with central discussion tables, to
enhance their flexibility for instructors.
Scheduling and Access
Instructors may schedule class meetings in H302 and H304 by
contacting David Sisk, either by calling extension 6745 or via
e-mail. The
computer classrooms are available on a first-come, first-served
basis to College faculty and staff. These rooms are intended
for special class meetings and projects: they are not available
for use as regularly-scheduled class meeting locations.
Instructors planning to use one of the computer classrooms
for the first time are strongly encouraged to arrange for
a brief
introduction to the facilities. To avoid possible problems,
instructors who wish to install specialized software should
also speak with
us at least a week in advance of the planned presentation.
Entry to H302 and H304 is controlled through a card-access
system, operating off of Macalester faculty and staff
identification cards. Card access is granted to Macalester faculty
and
staff members through the Safety and Security office.
To arrange
for
card access, call the Director of Security at extension
6218.
