Microsoft Office
The Microsoft Office suite is pre-installed on all
College-owned computers, including labs and faculty and staff desktops.
Unfortunately, our license does not allow us to provide Office directly to
students. Students may purchase the student version of Office from the Highlander store in the basement of the Campus Center.
Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows
Faculty and staff wishing to update or upgrade to Office
2007 on computers running Windows XP may do so by double-clicking the
"Office 2007 Install" icon in the Novell Application Launcher.
Follow the instructions to complete the update or installation. If you
have problems, call the Help Desk at x6525.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac OS X
Office 2008 for Mac requires OS X version 10.4 or later. If your computer has an earlier version of Mac OS X, you must use Office 2004.
Please note that Office 2008 runs much faster for Intel-based Macs but considerably slower than Office 2004 on PowerPC-based Macs. It is possible to have Office 2004 and Office 2008 installed simultaneously. This is recommended for PowerPC Mac users.
Older Versions of Microsoft Office
Older versions of Microsoft Office may be available, including Office 2003 and Office 2004 for Mac. If you you need an older version installed contact the Help Desk at x6525.
Microsoft Office Compatability Pack for Office 2003
If you using MS Office 2003 and are unable to open
files with the extensions docx, xlsx, and pptx, install this compatability pack. It will
allow you to open, edit and save files in the new OpenXML formats. This Compatability Pack is available for Windows XP and Vista only.
Microsoft OpenXML File Format Converter for Mac
If you using Office 2004 for Mac and are unable to open
files with the extensions docx, xlsx, and pptx, install this converter utility. Use it to convert files to and from the new Office OpenXML formats.
