The Old City from the Mount of Olives
After two and a half weeks of digging, the excavators
took off a long weekend and spent three nights in Jerusalem.
They stayed in the Novotel Hotel, which is a five minute
walk north of the Old City. In the Old City, they visited
the Western Wall, Dome of the Rock, and Church of the
Holy Sepulchre, and also got to explore the many narrow
streets lined with tiny stores and shops.
During the day, side trips took excavators to nearby
Bethlehem, Herodion,
Masada, Qumran,
and the Dead Sea. They also
had a chance to visit the Shrine of the Book, went out
to a traditional Arab dinner, and visited Rabbi Bernie
Raskas's apartment near the Knesset.
