Humanities 309

Peter Weisensel,  Ruthanne Kurth-Schai (Chair), Karl Wirth,  Jayne Niemi, Beth Cleary,    Joan Ostrove, Ellen Guyer, Diane Michelfelder, Linda Schulte-Sasse,  Michael Schneider, Caroline Ettinger (except during discussions of study away appeals and allocations)

  1. Minutes:  The minutes from the last meeting were approved.

2.   Study abroad:  We have already received appeals on study away decisions, and all are due by November 15th. We will consider all of them on the 17th.    Diane reviewed the administration’s efforts to find money to send more qualified students on spring programs.  She also reported that RPC has been asked to look at questions about study away and how it can be funded.

3.  Allocations:  There will be a Nov 30th chairs meeting where feedback will be solicited on the process of allocations (representation on the committee, role of the provost, clarity & consistency of request for materials, affirmative action).

4.   Linguistics:  John Haiman and Sarah Dart joined the committee for a question and answer session about the draft proposal for an interdisciplinary major in Linguistics.   They will follow up with a formal proposal, in catalog copy format, hopefully before the end of November.

   Adjourn 4:28 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jayne Niemi, Registrar
