RPC Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2006
Present: Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hornbach, Hoye, Latham, Lindeman, Michelfelder, Nedelsky, Wheaton and Rebert.
- Meeting was called to order at 2:10 pm.
- Minutes from the meeting of November 1, 2006 were approved.
- The committee reviewed a new draft of the proposed survey of faculty members on their perceptions of the benefits of various options. Discussion focused on the section on background, which describes the resources needed to return to a 10:1 student-faculty ratio. There was an extensive discussion of the definition of the student-faculty ratio, and of the number of faculty required to achieve the goal. It became clear that two distinct versions of the student faculty ratio are used at the college: one developed for internal purposes and one which uses the common data set methodology and is reported externally. The committee expressed the view that we should base our discussion on the latter version.
- The committee established a subgroup to carry out a salary audit this year, consisting of Professors Hoye and Flath.
- Meeting adjourned at 3:07 pm.
