RPC Meeting Minutes
December 6, 2006

Present: Balik, Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hornbach, Hoye, Latham, Lindeman, Michelfelder, Nedelsky, Rebert, Wheaton and Contant (ACE Fellow).

  1. Meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm
  2. Minutes from the meeting of November 29, 2006 were approved.
  3. Chair Heyman reported that the faculty benefits survey went out since the last meeting. Some responses have already been received, and other faculty have requested extensions. Chair Heyman will send out a reminder email on Wednesday, December 13, to faculty requesting their responses and extending the deadline for submission. He also indicated that he would like to contact peer institutions that have either lowered teaching loads or shortened the sabbatical cycle to discuss the anticipated and unanticipated consequences of those changes.
  4. Committee reports were received from Hornbach, Task Force on Budget; Hoye, Board of Trustees Buildings and Grounds committee; and Nedelsky, Benefits Advisory Committee. Latham indicated that he had been named to the Comprehensive Campaign working group. Finally, Provost Michelfelder reported on the Study Away process this year. Committee members discussed whether certain recommendations from the RPC report last year, such as alternative forms of study away (J term, summer courses and internships) were being considered.
  5. Chair Heyman asked about topics for next semester’s meetings. Topics proposed included: continuing discussion of the faculty support proposals, tuition pricing, library costs and serial availability, FTR fund usage, start-up funding, and staff salary considerations.
  6. The committee will not meet on December 13th.
  7. Meeting adjourned at 3:15 pm.

    Respectfully submitted by Cheryl Contant
