RPC Meeting Minutes
January 24, 2007
Present: Balik, Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hornbach, Hoye, Lindeman, Laskin, Michelfelder, Nedelsky, Wheaton and Contant (ACE Fellow).
- Meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm
- Minutes from the meeting of December 6, 2006 were approved
- Committee discussed Calendar for Spring ’07 term, and reviewed task list from previous term. Some items scheduled were the faculty salary audit, a possible proposal for a new policy on journal subscriptions for the library, and our ongoing discussion of options for faculty support. RPC will wait for guidance from the senior staff before joining any discussion of tuition and fees.
- Heyman presented results from the Survey of the Faculty on faculty support. The committee felt that the number of surveys collected, 41 to date, was too small, leaving the results susceptible to bias. We resolved to create a web-based survey and seek additional responses from the faculty.
- The committee discussed other possible issues for spring calendar. Two new issues raised were (1) developing with TFOB a strategic plan to set priorities for staffing at Macalester, and (2) beginning a discussion to separate the things we do into those things which are core to our mission or peripheral, as preemptive crisis planning. A third issue discussed was overall employee satisfaction (faculty and staff). It was felt that this third issue was too big to be tackled this year.
