RPC Meeting Minutes
February 7, 2007
Present: Balik, Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hoye, Lindeman, Latham, Laskin, Michelfelder, Hornbach.
- Meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm.
- Minutes from the meeting of January 31, 2007 were approved.
- Committee discussed spring calendar. We scheduled FPAC meetings to discuss Student-Faculty Research proposals on 3/7/07, and Wallace proposals and the Teaching award on 3/21/07. We plan to primarily discuss issues of Staff support and Staffing levels in the second half of the term.
- We discussed results of faculty survey, including responses received up to 2/5/07.
- Committee discussed the structure of the report on enhancing support for faculty. We agreed that the report should present the costs and benefits of the options we have considered, and that it will recommend changing the faculty sabbatical cycle to a shorter cycle in which semester sabbatical cycles count for two course releases. We agreed that the report should include an assessment piece, and that the assessment items should reflect the perceived benefits to the institution. Items we raised in discussion included faculty recruitment and retention, faculty scholarship, student-faculty collaborative work and curricular development.
