RPC Meeting Minutes
April 4, 2007
Present: Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hornbach, Hoye, Laskin, Lindeman, Latham, Nedelsky.
- Meeting was called to order at 2:10 pm.
- Minutes from the meeting of February 14, 2007 were approved as amended.
- Daniel Flath and Rebecca Hoye presented the Faculty Salary Audit. They summarized their findings:
No systematic differences in 2006-2007 salary based on sex or race are found that go beyond those accounted for by Rank and Years-in-Rank: Approximately 90% of salary variation is explained by Rank and Years-in-Rank differences. Differences in sex, race, division, or department do not explain the remaining salary variation.
Faculty salaries differ substantially according to rank. 80% of all faculty have a salary that is within 17% of the mean for their rank.
The Faculty Salary Audit will be presented at the 4/11/07 Faculty Meeting. It was suggested that RPC identify a statistician (such as Mathematics Professor Vittorio Addona) to consult on future Faculty Salary Audits.
- RPC reviewed Heyman’s revised draft of the introductory section of the Report on Faculty Support and made comments and suggestions. It was suggested that the report, when completed, be circulated to the faculty for comment. A revised report addressing faculty comments should then be put forward for faculty endorsement early in Fall, 2007.
- The meeting adjourned at 3:10 PM.
