RPC Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2007
Present: Collins, Flath, Heyman, Hornbach, Hoye, Laskin, Latham, Michelfelder.
- Meeting was called to order at 2:10 pm.
- Minutes from the meeting of April 4, 2007 were approved.
- Daniel Flath gave a preview of his presentation of the Faculty Salary Audit to the 4/11/07 Faculty Meeting.
- RPC discussed Heyman’s revised draft of the Report on Faculty Support and made comments and suggestions.
• Some revisions were suggested to main proposal on sabbatical leaves to put support for teaching on equal footing with support for scholarship.
• Committee supported $250/yr increase of FTR funds to replace value lost to inflation over recent years.
• We discussed recommendations RPC should make to other committees to support our proposal, should it be implemented. FPC should move to modify handbook language describing content of sabbaticals, to explicitly support curriculum development as well as academic scholarship.
• Committee supported using recently developed “indicators of academic success” to assess impact of any change in faculty support. We also discussed surveying faculty again, perhaps 5 years after any implementation of any change.
- RPC decided to conduct further revisions to report through e-mail. Therefore, committee will not meet to discuss report further.
- The meeting adjourned at 3:19 PM.
