2010 Student Employee of the Year:
Sue Xiong, Civic Engagement Center
Sue Xiong was nominated by Ruth Janisch Lake of the Civic Engagement Center. As an Issue Area Coordinator, Sue is responsible for volunteer management, on-campus programming, and building and maintaining on-campus community partnerships. She is professional and collaborative in organizing students and working with Twin Cities community-based organizations. This year over 250 local youth who would be the first in their family to attend college have visited Macalester as a result of Sue’s initiative. She recruited advocates for the State Grant Program at “Day at the Capitol.” In March, Sue led a workshop at the IMPACT Conference, a national student conference on service, advocacy, and social action. Ruth wrote, “I am confident that our college access efforts will continue and grow stronger in future years as a result of the example that she has provided to others for this important work.” |
