Bottled Water Discussion

Students from MacCares and Sustainability Advisory would like to begin the ban immediately -- affirming the resolution previously endorsed and forwarded by the Sustainability Advisory Committee.  The students provided a power point on the various issues related to bottled water and the distribution on campus.  They also presented results of a campus survey.  The students presented a plan for education and programming on campus.

There was discussion on agreement/disagreement related to social justice issues of bottled water; the need to put a ban in place sooner rather than later and who had ultimate “recommending jurisdiction” -- the SRC or Sustainability Committee.

The SRC proposed the following recommendations to President Rosenberg:

1)   The College adopt a bottled water free policy, with the long-term objective where all offices   and divisions abolish the sale, purchase and distribution of bottled water.
2)   The policy will be implemented in stages, beginning with an educational campaign.
3)   The College will develop a plan to renovate the existing physical plant to make tap water        more accessible.

Meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
