Social Responsibility Committee
Meeting of 9 November 2011
Members Present: Terry Boychuk, chair, Lloyd Cledwyn, Daylanne English, Anna Faber, and
Members Absent: Joanne Rhoades, Doriyush Ubaydi, David Wheaton, and Laurie Hamre.
Guests: Lee Olson, Psychology, Josephine Ahrens, Student Endowment Committee, and Kimberly Driesch, General Manager, Bon Appetit ( in place for David Ramlow, District Manager)
The meeting was called to order a 3:35 pm.
The chair announced that Professor Erik Davis had submitted a more detailed request to the SRC to review the college's contract with Veolia (see attached).
Kimberly Driesch spoke of the MN Food Safety Guidelines for handling heated or prepared food and the current practice of donating left over food to a farmer. Upon request, she agreed to contact the Dorothy Day Center and Second Harvest agencies to discuss possibilities for salvaging left overs to be redistributed to the needy, and to examine the various provisions of the state's Good Samaritan Laws that may provide exemptions from the Food Safety Guidelines.
Daylanne English proposed inviting the College's Sustainability Manager, Suzanne Hansen, to the next meeting to give us an overview of campus green initiatives that have developed in cooperation with Veolia, the college's waste management company.
Josie Ahrens indicated the intent to bring forward a proposal for socially responsible investments of the college's endowment for the November 30th meeting.
