Archaic Vase Painting

Using your knowledge of archaic Greece, visual narrative, and the Homeric epics, analyze the images on the vessel below to which you were assigned in class. Your group will be responsible for a 5-10 minute presentation of your analysis during the second half of class.

  1. Berlin F 2289 - Kylix (drinking cup)
  2. Berlin F 2278 - Kylix (drinking cup)
  3. Toledo 1961.23 - Hydria (water jar)
  4. London B 502 - Oinochoe (vessel for pouring wine into cups, also used as grave marker)
  5. Louvre E 635 - Krater (bowl for mixing wine)
