Post-Mortem Purple
The waiter took back the death of Saint Margaret
shaking in wine sauce mouth open eyes closed
Your menu
werewolves swooning on the steak
phone-cord nooses in the greens
bloody voyeurs stuck to blue pies
blind eyes baked in the steam
Margaret
sometimes called Marina
cannibals sucked through straws
schizos parked on fake flowers
sex addicts cooling on the hot plate
Imprisoned and tortured and innocent
eventually beheaded,
after being swallowed by a dragon
syringes wrapped in napkins
assassins scrawled in candle wax
Pre-Saint Margaret was a girl
With pretty skin and pagan eyes
and then she drew her hand away
and then she chose and died
and then the check
Saint Margaret wouldn’t eat this food
She knew the meaning of overkill
