Ryan Dzelzkalns
Ryan Dzelzkalns makes you look fat. Living here in the Twin Cities for just under a year now, Ryan has been busy with The Crenellations project—an upstart initiative devoted to regulation creation on unicorn care and killing along the bike paths of Minneapolis/St. Paul in the form of an easy to eat pamphlet. Ryan grew up in the back roads of Brooklyn where he spent most of his childhood memorizing the works of Webster and Roget. He began writing at age 9—exploring the art of the personal essay as well as writing song lyrics. Surprisingly, his musicianship really took off at age 11, and he spent a few years touring the malls of America, bringing thought-provoking rap lyrics to the public. His signature performance entailed him playing a recording of his music while he, himself, sat with his head on the desk. Ryan was avant at a very young age. His hip-hop career burnt out at age 15 (although he has recently made a small revival with his new hit “Palms of Freedom”). This is when Ryan began exploring the art of verse. Almost compulsively, Ryan wrote until his jaw ached. His poems continued to expand and expand until the world could no longer hold such spectacular verbiage. Faced with this bomb almost at the point of explosion, Ryan was forced to pare down, live in a world free of adjectives or adverbs. The world is never at peace while Ryan Dzelzkalns is alive, and yet without him, it would cease to exist. In the meantime, Ryan is content to eat eggs and wrestle kalamata sharks in the privacy of his dorm room.
